Old Man Emu 2.5-inch forged monotube shocks by ARB, with rear external piggyback reservoirs, tuned to carry weight — a rooftop tent, a fridge, a week of gear — without wallowing. An ARB steel rear bumper with integrated recovery points. A low-profile high-mount air intake — a snorkel, in plain terms — that pulls engine air from above the roofline instead of the dusty, wet zone behind the fender. Toyota rates it to tow up to 6,000 pounds.

Inside, it is a modern truck. Mineral SofTex seating — a warm, light greige with bronze accents that hides trail dust better than black — with heated and ventilated front seats, the 14-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a JBL audio system with a removable portable speaker that lifts out of the dash and goes to the campsite. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard: a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed dynamic radar cruise control, and lane tracing assist.

Underground is the deep, slightly green-cast gray that Toyota's off-road trims are photographed in, and on the bronze wheels and hardware it reads exactly as intended.
