Built on the improved Dynamic Force architecture, a 2.0-liter engine powers the 2022 Toyota Corolla SE and XSE. The familiar Dual VVT-i design is applied to this four-cylinder powertrain, which generates 169 net hp. This naturally aspirated, 16-valve powerplant develops 151 lb-ft of torque. Both models offer the Eco, Normal, and Sport modes through electronic buttons. These efficient sedans also receive the Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV-30) rating. Engineered for smooth operations in various driving conditions, the Dynamic-Shift continuously variable transmission (CVT) links the I-4 engine with the front axle. Complying with EPA metrics, the 2023 Corolla SE and XSE get up to 40 mpg on the highway and 31 mpg in the city. Additionally, these sedans have an electric parking brake and Hill Start Assist Control for convenient handling on urban streets with traffic congestion.

Design Features

You can customize the 2023 Toyota Corolla SE’s exterior design in a handful of premium colors. This compact Toyota sedan comes in Ruby Flare, Celestite, Blueprint, and several other monotone finishes. Only the Midnight Black paint can be used to form a dual-tone finish for the body. You’ll find similar color schemes for the 2023 Toyota Corolla XSE’s exterior design. Both models have a sport-style mesh on the front grille, decorated in Gloss Black applications. Optional on the SE and standard on the XSE, the color-keyed side mirrors have blind-spot indicators, heating, and power-folding. Color-keyed door handles are also installed on both editions. As a higher-level trim, the XSE flaunts the exclusive sport side rock panels with a gray finish. Such a color also covers the car’s rear spoiler. By contrast, the SE’s rear spoiler has a color-keyed finish. This trim is furnished with premium fabric in Moonstone or black. The XSE has the SofTex material in pure black or a black/red combination.

Having an all-new design, an 8-inch touchscreen is standard on the 2023 Toyota Corolla SE and XSE. This high-resolution monitor is easier to control than before. Wireless Apple CarPlay is another major improvement to the next-generation multimedia console. You’ll even get a three-month trial to SiriusXM Satellite Radio, which can be enjoyed on a six-speaker sound system. Each Toyota sedan can be equipped with a nine-speaker audio system designed by JBL. Both Corolla trims are already loaded with 10-year Service Connect and Safety Connect trials. A 30-day subscription to Wi-Fi Connect is integrated into the infotainment center. The XSE edition gets exclusive 12-month subscriptions to the Drive Connect and Remote Connect apps. Additionally, this high-end model has the Blind Spot Monitor for instant detection of hazards in other lanes.
