Performance Features

Performance Features

The 2022 Toyota Corolla gets up to 169 horsepower from a 2.0-liter engine block that employs the latest Dynamic Force technology. Boosted by the Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) function, the four-cylinder powertrain cranks out 151 pound-feet of torque. By contrast, the 2022 Hyundai Elantra extracts only 147 net hp from a 2.0-L engine. This standard I-4 powerplant can’t deliver more than 132 lb-ft of torque. However, the sport-tuned N Line edition is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-L engine that yields 201 hp and 195 lb-ft. You could manually select the Eco, Normal, and Power modes for the 2022 Corolla. Likewise, the Elantra could run on the Normal, Sport, and Smart settings from the Drive Mode Select. This compact Hyundai sedan is driven by the Intelligent Variable Transmission. You could buy the athletic N Line trim with a six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission. Also creating six different gear ratios, the Intelligent Manual Transmission is optional on the 2022 Corolla. Most trims run on the Dynamic-Shift Continuously Variable Transmission. Fitted with a multi-link rear suspension, this compact Toyota sedan maintains good composure on rough roads. Equipped with a coupled torsion-beam rear axle, the Elantra offers a harsher ride on paved surfaces.

Technology Features

Technology Features

The 2022 Toyota Corolla offers the Audio Plus infotainment center with an 8.0-inch diagonal touch screen. In addition to having eight hard buttons and two electronic knobs, this multimedia console recognizes voice commands. Similarly, the 2022 Hyundai Elantra has an 8.0-inch monitor with touch controls and speech recognition. Both compact sedans enable smartphone connections through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Thanks to the Toyota+Alexa application, you could ask Amazon’s virtual assistant for guidance during a drive. The Toyota Connected Services offer other premium technologies, such as Remote Connect and Wi-Fi Connect. You won’t get as many high-tech amenities from Hyundai’s Blue Link suite, which is available with the Remote Package and Connected Care.

Safety Features

Safety Features

Available with the Adaptive Front-Lighting System, the 2022 Toyota Corolla offers class-leading road visibility at night. This compact Toyota sedan includes ten airbags for segment-leading passive safety. Side-impact door beams and head-impact structures provide superb protection against lateral crashes. Of course, the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 technology contributes to the vehicle’s IIHS Top Safety Pick credentials. Some major crash-prevention features on this lightweight car include the Pre-Collision System and Lane Tracing Assist. When equipped with the Hyundai SmartSense technology, the 2022 Elantra also qualifies for such an honor from the IIHS. However, the Corolla’s Blind Spot Monitor is slightly more advanced than the Elantra’s Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist.
